The Lumby & District Senior Citizens Housing Society was incorporated under the Society's Act on October 8, 1974. The originators of the Society have named the complex "Saddle Mountain Place".

During the mid 1990's, a former long-time tenant of Saddle Mountain Place bequeathed shares of oil stocks to the Society. At that time, the directors applied for and on June 1, 1996, became a registered charity for tax-exemption status.

Since 1985, the Society began catching up on repairs to the suites and buildings. By 1990, appliances were being replaced with new ones. Extensive painting and carpet replacements were being done as well as replacing heaters and hotwater tanks. To date, all but a few suites have been totally redone. The long time tenants (25 - 30 years) suites will be done at their convenience.

The financial recovery has produced a "Reserve" account of $50,000 (as required by CMHC) for capital expenditures, such a roofing, siding and appliance replacements. The directors in recent years have been able to do these capital expenses without touching the "Reserve" account. This was done in order to build up the "Reserve" to CMHC's requirements of $15,000 per year, and they still operate in the black.

The latest capital expenditure was replacing the bedroom windows in the 40 suites. The old ones were long narrow windows down to the floor level with the opening at the bottom. This made it difficult for most seniors to reach as well as creating a cold draft in the winter months.
